Board Members:
ISO of COSA board members commit to a two-year term. Board members are working volunteers, not just representatives. Each board member serves on or chairs one of the above committees. That way, each board member will be able to report the status of various service works at our board meetings. Further, each on-coming board member knows that she/he is expected to attend the board meetings. There are two in-person board meetings each year and other telephone conference meetings as needed.
Board Executive Committee:
The chair supervises ISO of COSA and conducts business meetings. The vice-chair serves as chair when the chair is absent and prepares to serve as chair in the following year. The vice-chair also manages and assists the national coordinator, ISO's employee. The recording secretary takes notes during all business meetings, prepares, disseminates, and corrects the meeting minutes, and prepares the annual delegate packet. The treasurer attends to financial matters of ISO of COSA and provides financial reports.
National Volunteers:
National COSA volunteers who chair or serve on committees, or who are coordinators for various service work, are asked to commit to serve in their function for a considerable time. There is no hard rule, only the guideline that it takes time to accomplish things and continuity seems to help our efficiency.
National Coordinator:
The ISO of COSA employee works very few hours due to limited funds. Current duties include maintaining the national lists of active COSA groups and generating address labels for ISO mailings. Recently this person started filling Literature Orders. Duties will be added as funding permits. The goal is to eventually move to full-time status, to centralize critical functions and manage all routine operations.

This is a description, based on the draft of our ISO of COSA Procedure/Service Manual, of how we seem to work and how we might want to work. It is a draft, an idea, a vision, a plan. At this point in our development (NSO of COSA infancy) many of these volunteer positions are held by just a few people. In our future, service volunteers will not need to tackle so many different jobs because we are attracting more national level volunteers and we are getting clearer about what we need.
Your input and ideas about this NSO snapshot are wanted and welcome. Please give your comments to the chair for incorportion in our service manual.
If you would like to volunteer your time and energy to any of these service areas, and if you are a member of COSA, then please let us know which committee you are interested in. We need your help!
If you are a member of COSA, and you or you group would like to make a financial contribution to the NSO's work, please refer to the donation card.
